Believe it or not the Facebook police are real. The Federal, State and Local government collect data, watch chats, look at pictures and check status updates to capture suspects. Also, insurance companies are surveying people who file complaints.

According to The Register a United Kingdom publication, in September, Mexican officials arrested a man suspected of bank fraud in the US after he bragged on Facebook that he was living the good life in Cancun…In La Crosse, Wisconsin, police charged a university student with underage drinking after seeing picture of beer cans on his page.

The Montreal newspaper reports,

“A Quebec woman on long-term sick leave is fighting to have her benefits reinstated after her employer’s insurance company cut them, she says, because of photos posted on Facebook.
Nathalie Blanchard, 29, has been on leave from her job at IBM in Bromont, Que., for the last year and a half after she was diagnosed with major depression.

The Eastern Townships woman was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits from Manulife, her insurance company, but the payments dried up this fall.

When Blanchard called Manulife, the company said that “I’m available to work, because of Facebook,” she told CBC News this week.

She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on the popular social networking site, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party and on a sun holiday — evidence that she is no longer depressed, Manulife said.”

Accepting everyone’s friendship, sharing my life in status updates, and posting photos seem so undesirable right now.

Below is the picture that the insurance company used in their case.

There was something on CNN.com yesterday regarding more security measures on Facebook. I haven’t read it (yet), but what you’ve presented here is something to think about.

I’m sure that the party crashers is placing even more focus on the risks of social media activity. Thanks.
